Acupuncture and Chinese medicine

Chinese medicine

Chinese medicine has been practiced and refined over a couple of thousand years. In the Chinese culture, it is a deeply ingrained practice that is influenced by and in turn influences most aspects of life - diet, philosophy, lifestyle, exercise etc. It is very much a way of understanding the body's physiology and function, interlinked with the emotional, mental and spiritual health; promoting vitality by living in harmony with nature and with our surrounding to sustain health and wellness.

Hence, treatment not only involves working on the presenting patterns of the physical body which may include one of more of: acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, GuaSha (scraping), Tuina. It also includes the dietary, lifestyle, stress management and exercise methods to support and facilitate your journey to return to, and maintain a healthy balance in life.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points or channels in the human body with the aim of correcting imbalances in the flow of Qi flowing though the body’s acupuncture channels. By correcting these imbalances and/or blockages, it helps to restore the body’s state of balance and well-being, thus good health. Acupuncture is widely used as a drug-free way to relieve pain and to treat other conditions – both acute and chronic.

Chinese herbal medicine involves the use of a combination of herbs, many of plant origin, to create a formula. A formula will take into account the individual therapeutic action of each herb and well as the effects when combined together. It maximises the effectiveness for treating a particular condition, while counteracting and minimising the unwanted effects of an individual herb.

Cups can be applied with different pressure, and can be applied on areas of pain or tension, or on specific acupuncture points on the body. Typically, marks may remain for several days after treatment, and the depth of the colour is an indication of the amount of stagnation present, or toxins being drawn out.
