Hello and welcome to my page! I'm Chee Yeoh, your registered acupuncturist and Chinese medicine herbalist.

I believe in the importance of preventing 21st century chronic diseases through an understanding the role our daily lifestyle and diet play in our health, and in the inherent ability of our body to heal. The latter aspect is the aim of treatments in order to engage the self healing process. To help your body return to a state of balance and wellness sooner, and maintain this vitality, sessions with me will include education in various dietary and lifestyle aspects to support yourself in this journey with the wisdom of Chinese medicine gained over several thousand years. With an understanding of why, and how, it provides clarity for your journey, instead of the confusion that so many people faces.

Having worked in the corporate world, I understand the the demands and struggles faced in balancing your health against these challenges. I will work with you to overcome challenges in your journey to regain a healthy balance and a true sense of vitality. In effect, you will be the driver of your health and well being.

Why am I so driven in helping your to regain your wellness? I have personally experienced the physical and emotional struggle of losing a parent to the complications of diabetes. I believe these complications could have been prevented with my Chinese medicine knowledge now.

My qualifications as a yoga teacher also helps me cultivate an awareness of both mind and body, and you will find that I often suggest various types of exercises as part of the treatment stemming from yoga tradition as well, where appropriate.

What typically happens in a session?

I will take a thorough consultation to find out what are the barriers to your wellness preventing you from living your desired quality of life. This is achieved through verbal aspect of the consultation, as well as feedback from your body through visual inspection and palpation - pulse, abdomen, and channel findings. The visual and textural feedback from your body will provide important information on where the imbalances lie.

We will discuss how to overcome these barriers through modification in your diet, lifestyle, stress management strategies where appropriate. We will also utilitise one or more of the following modalities to help achieve the goal of re-engaging your body's self healing process: acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, GuaSha, Tuina.

How many sessions will I require to feel better?

The number of sessions and the frequency of treatment depends on many factors, including but are not limited to - what am I helping you with, and how long have you been experiencing the complaint? Are there any other health issues/factors that could be complicating and/or contributing to the complaint? How successful are you on implementing the suggested dietary/lifestyle/stress management etc strategies to complement the treatment and support your body regain balance sooner? Chinese medicine is looking at your health and wellness as an integrated whole and looking to address the health complaint at its root cause, instead of merely being a band-aid solution. That said, people will often notice a marked difference in their complaint within 6 to 8 sessions if they observe the recommended treatment frequencies and supporting changes.

Rest assured that your condition is being continually assessed at each session to determine the appropriate frequency of treatment, and the modalities required to achieve the best health outcome.

How long is each treatment session?

Acupuncture treatments: Please allow 75-90mins for initial treatments, and 45-60mins for follow-ups.

Herbal consultations (stand alone sessions only available in Thornbury clinic): Please allow 45-60mins for initial consults, and 30mins for follow-up consultation.

Cupping appointments: 30mins

What style of acupuncture is utilised? Will it be painful?

I have learnt several style of acupuncture, but predominantly practices Nagano Style. This is a gentle acupuncture style using very fine gauge needles, and utilises a palpatory methodology. It often addresses the Stomach Qi to ensure that the body has the ability to access sufficient resources to enable healing. Many often find it a comfortable experience.

I am not a native English speaker, will a translator be needed?

Besides English, I speak Mandarin and Cantonese as well. A translator will be required if you communicate in a different language to these.
